Kosi Bay Lakes
Located in the most northern section of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Kosi Bay consists of 4 interconnected lakes and an estuary that joins the ocean at the Kosi Mouth. It is about 90 kms on the R22 ( tar road) to Manguzi, the closest town and then about 13kms to the lakes.
KOSI MOUTH - Lake 1
A great place to visit on low tide - wide open sandbanks, beautiful scenery & good snorkeling in the clear waters close to the mouth. Here you can also see the traditional reed fishing traps, this tradition has been handed down though generations for hundreds of years. There is also great snorkelling to be found in the clear waters at the mouth. Access to Kosi Mouth and beach is on a very road & requires a 4x4.
Should you wish to visit the mouth you will need to get a permit from the Ezemvelo office at Lake 3
There are also transfers and guided snorkeling & kayaking trips available.
LAKE 3
Here you will find the Ezemvelo office where you can get a permit to visit the mouth. This lake is accessible in a regular car and boat trips and tours leave from here. A Three Lake Cruise will allow you to experience to stunning beauty of this area - with a good chance of spotting hippos, flamingos, palm nut vultures & much more. You can also snorkel in the narrow channels.
